Arizona State University School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering is seeking exceptional candidates for full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible Associate Teaching Professors to develop and teach the foundational/pre-clerkship medical school curriculum within the following disciplines:
Associate Teaching Professor positions are full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible, and renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Applicants should have a broad grasp of their respective discipline of study, in addition to experience in college or university-level teaching and student mentoring. Responsibilities will also include supervising graduate teaching assistants, undergraduate teaching/learning assistants, and updating/developing course materials with other faculty. These positions are 80% teaching and 20% service, providing service within the school and university in capacities appropriate for the position and will interact and engage broadly with faculty and staff within the medical school.
The School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering resides under the broader ASU Health initiative, which aims to address health-related outcomes for the citizens of Arizona while promoting innovative models of health education. Launching on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus, the School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering will integrate clinical medicine, biomedical science, and engineering disciplines to train doctors who provide exceptional patient care and think holistically about health care solutions.
The successful candidate(s) will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary faculty to develop and deliver engaging instructional content for the foundational/pre-clerkship curriculum, incorporating evidence-based and student-centered teaching strategies.
Required Qualifications
PhD degree (Ph.D.) or terminal degree in any of the listed disciplines within the position description or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
Experience teaching healthcare-related curriculum, with expertise in one or more of the following core pre-clerkship curricular topics: pathology, pharmacology, physiology, medical genetics, cell biology and histology, molecular chemistry/biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, neuroscience, gross anatomy, biostatistics & epidemiology.
Experience creating course curriculum and teaching with innovative instructional methods, including using technology to supplement and improve pedagogy.
Desired Qualifications
Minimum of 5-6 years of experience teaching healthcare-related curriculum, with expertise in one or more of the core pre-clerkship curricular topics above.
Strong commitment to education aligned with the mission and goals of the School of Medicine and Advanced Medical Engineering.
Former experience as a course or block leader and/or engineering background is desirable.
Experience supervising and mentoring graduate teaching assistants, undergraduate teaching/learning assistants, and instructional lab coordinators.
Evidence of collaborative activities with other faculty and sta?.
Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities (for example, postdoctoral teaching certi?cate programs, authoring educational and scienti?c publications, presenting at conferences, etc.).
