Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the use of BIM in the High Steel Structures (HSS) Engineering Department, and subsequently throughout the HSS organization, to facilitate digital delivery of projects in the structural steel industry. This responsibility includes managing the development and maintenance of the BIM software systems, integration of BIM software with other HSS systems, developing and maintaining effective user training, and advancing HSS’s use of BIM as technology evolves. This role requires industry involvement in appropriate technical committees and user groups to develop HSS’s position as an industry leader in BIM technology.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Two-year or four-year degree in an engineering technology field
Minimum of 8 years of modeling or detailing experience in the steel construction industry
Minimum of 5 years of modeling experience in the steel bridge industry preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience using Tekla 3-D modeling software preferred.
Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or similar.
Experience with API, .NET, and other programming languages such as C++ and C#
Project management and systems integration experience
Experience in managing and leading cross-functional teams
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for working effectively and collaboratively within a team.
DIMENSIONS (SALES VOLUME, TOTAL EMPLOYEES REPORTING, PAYROLL, ETC.):
Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of BIM systems to leverage data and integrate HSS into digital delivery of projects.
Leverage BIM capabilities at HSS to further its position as an industry leader.
Train internal coworkers and provide technical support for BIM use.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The BIM Technical Manager reports to the Vice President of Engineering.
During the initial implementation of BIM software, the BIM Technical Manager will be responsible for a core development team of 2 or 3 direct reports. Following this implementation, the BIM Technical Manager will have no direct reports.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop, implement, and manage the use of BIM in the HSS Engineering Department, and subsequently throughout the HSS organization, not only to facilitate digital delivery of projects, but to improve project delivery, to improve the flow of information and data through HSS and to clearly communicate fabrication requirements to Operations.
Develop and maintain the modeling protocol and associated detailing standards within High Steel Engineering and those to be used by sublet modeling/detailing vendors. Lead the development of internal APIs and routines to improve internal efficiencies with the BIM software.
Integrate the BIM software into existing HSS software systems and identify opportunities and develop strategies for process and system improvements, which leverage the use of data.
Review HSS’s ongoing business application of BIM. Assess current state and make recommendations on software, processes and/or personnel requirements to achieve Company objectives.
Develop and maintain training programs for all users of the BIM software based on individual BIM skills assessments. Schedule, facilitate and/or conduct training sessions in a timely manner consistent with the HSS objectives for BIM. Procure and coordinate with 3rd party training resources, as necessary.
Coordinate with Corporate IT on BIM software licensing and software maintenance, BIM software installations and configurations, and computer hardware requirements.
Represent HSS in the transportation BIM industry with a focus on ensuring that HSS maintains a leadership position in BIM and furthering the development of BIM in the transportation sector.
Provide technical guidance to sublet modeling/detailing vendors when deemed necessary.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve on company or industry committees as appropriate.
Present relevant topics or projects at local, state, and national conferences and seminars to help further the industry and to represent HSS.
Promote the interests and favorable image of HSS and the High Companies. Support and sustain the values of the High Philosophy.
