The City of Naperville seeks an Electrical Engineer II. The Electrical Engineer II position reviews plans and specifications for utility system construction, provides professional consultation on construction in progress, and performs professional engineering work in the design of electric utility system development and improvements.
Project assignments typically include electric utility infrastructure design and development, the preparation of equipment specifications, and responsibilities for meeting completion dates, bidding specifications and contracts, design reviews and cost constraints.

Duties
Designs electric distribution and/or substation systems. Prepares engineering plans and specifications. Directs drafting work as needed. May coordinate designs with other electrical or City projects.
Coordinates activities of contractors in the construction of electric systems as required. Prepares correspondence and communicates with contractors, developers, electric operations, and other departments.
Prepares and maintains planning drawings and documentation.
Creates new and revises existing Engineering specifications. Research new industry standards, technology, means, and methods.
Verifies construction in progress in the field.
Prepares cost estimates and reviews invoices.
Draws plans when required.
May research property records to ascertain right?of?way. Reviews easement documents.
Reviews projects prepared by subordinates and coordinates workload.
May develop manuals and specifications for electrical system construction.
Reports project status to management. Maintains project and personal activity records.
Attends and/or schedules various meetings including pre?construction, coordination, and conceptual design.
May provide research programming in various aspects of personal computers.
Provides information and answers questions for the general public.
May prepare and evaluate bidding documents, department’s standards, and specifications.
Provides computerized load flow analysis.
Maintains computerized model of the distribution system.
Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science.
At least five years of professional electrical engineering experience, plus a proven record of engineering planning, design, and deployment of medium-to-large projects with minimal supervision.
The ability to promptly obtain a Professional Illinois Engineering License
A valid State of Illinois Class D Driver's License
