The NSIP Genetics Division (Ithaca, NY) is recruiting for an Operations Research Analyst with a specialization in stochastic programming. This position will work closely with NSIP’s cross-functional team of statisticians, mathematicians, operations research engineers, computer scientists, geneticists, plant breeders, and software engineers to help implement computational and genomics-based plant breeding solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to NSIP’s optimization framework, and to the solution of cutting-edge problems relevant to breeding and propagation. The Operations Research Analyst will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of scientists dedicated to developing and implementing plant breeding and production technologies across agricultural sectors.
Ph.D. (preferred) or M.S. degree in operations research, engineering, applied math, or a related field
Ability to analyze and optimize stochastic systems, with a consideration for efficient integration of methodology with downstream software
Interest and enthusiasm for implementing computational and genomics-based technologies to enhance the effectiveness of plant breeding programs
Experience implementing reinforcement machine-learning techniques desired but not required
Participate in the research, development, and application of stochastic optimization methodology to existing and novel problems in genetics and breeding as related to NSIP’s current and future business.
Prepare scientific reports, publications and presentations that convey progress and challenges to NSIP’s application of stochastic optimization to current and future problems in plant breeding and production.
Provide consultation in the application of optimization methodology to both NSIP and client projects.
Attend and participate in research planning and optimization-tutorial meetings with other NSIP employees and clients as needed.
Attend symposia and workshops as needed to keep current in the latest developments in the scientific fields related to these job responsibilities.
