The Village of Hinsdale is seeking a civil engineering student for the position of Civil Engineering Intern in the Public Services & Engineering Department during the summer of 2020.
Duties and Responsibilities
Position will be responsible for assisting with inspecting all phases of projects, basic surveying, AutoCad drafting, and assisting with the review of private and public stormwater uses and solutions. This internship will also assist with the preparation and administration of contracts related to sidewalk construction, curbs/gutters, asphalt and concrete paving, sanitary and storm sewer work, and managing Illinois EPA data collection, tracking and reporting.
Candidate is expected to work 10 weeks over the summer.
Successful candidate will have knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal engineering and have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with residents, contractors, architects, other government agencies and fellow employees. Proof of enrollment in a civil engineering program at a college or university is required.
Environmental Factors & Physical Requirements
The work environment generally includes an office setting. The noise level is usually quiet. This position is regularly required to sit in a chair; use hands to touch (e.g. computer mouse), handle (e.g. telephone), type (e.g. keyboard) or feel (e.g. paper); reach with hands and arms, and see, talk and hear. Occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. May lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to read a computer screen.
Additional Salary Information: Rate of pay is $10/hour. There are no additional benefits associated with this position.
