The Bellevue Transportation Department is looking for an Engineer or Senior Transportation Engineer to join the City's team of talented transportation development review professionals. Bellevue is recognized for its many advancements in transportation approaches and technologies, and we are excited to provide an opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer to join our progressive team.

You will be responsible for providing construction engineering for transportation elements during the construction phase of development projects, as well as reviewing proposed commercial and residential developments for traffic impacts and compliance with the City's Complete Streets design standards. You will apply your construction and design review experience to civil engineering plans and traffic analysis, and solving engineering issues during project construction. You will also have opportunities to build and be part of teams to advance proposed developments and to participate in the leadership of our APWA accredited Transportation Department. Although this position does not have direct supervisory responsibility over other positions, you may act as lead worker to other engineering staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides construction engineering to address various transportation issues during the construction phase of development projects. Common engineering responsibilities include ADA compliance, resolving plan errors, directing engineering solutions to field issues, coordinating post revision design changes, and coordinating issues with the design review team and right-of-way inspectors.
Reviews and analyzes the transportation aspects of complex development projects. Works with other staff to resolve project issues as part of an interdepartmental team.
Identifies potential traffic and operational impacts for all modes of transportation, and determines appropriate mitigation measures by consistently applying codes and standards using judgement and independence.
Reviews traffic reports and engineering plans for compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.
Represents the Transportation Department on the construction site, and at public meetings, hearings and other forums.
Provides excellent customer service to City residents and those doing business with the City.
Manages a complex workload with competing schedules and deadlines.
Leads process improvement projects such as code revisions including presentations to the Transportation Commission and City Council.
Participates in Department and City efforts to provide stellar community outcomes through the City's shared leadership philosophy.

Education and Experience Requirements

Senior Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A degree in a closely related engineering field may be considered.
Five or more years of transportation related construction, design, or operation engineering experience. Some transportation construction or development review experience preferred.
Washington State Professional Civil Engineering license preferred but not required.
Valid Washington State driver's license is required or ability to acquire within three months of employment.

Engineer:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A degree in a closely related engineering field may be considered.
Two or more years of transportation related construction, design, or operation engineering experience preferred but not required.
Engineer in Training certification preferred but not required.
Valid Washington State driver's license is required or ability to acquire within three months of employment.
