The Long Range Planning Group within the Planning and Development Services division is currently hiring for a detail oriented and self-motivated Assistant Planner who will perform professional and technical planning work of limited complexity. In addition, this role will provide technical staff assistance to higher level planning staff.
The incumbent in this role will be responsible for answering public inquiries regarding community planning and general planning issues; and reviewing, editing and formatting public notices, reports, issue papers, agendas, findings and webpage materials. In addition, the individual in this role will be responsible for compiling supportive technical data for comprehensive and community plan development, and will maintain databases and files for planning projects.
Education and Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
An Associate's Degree or 90 credits of college-level coursework in urban or regional planning, geography, architecture, environmental sciences, community development, economics, or a closely related field; AND
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in planning functions for a public-sector agency or private consulting firm. OR
A Bachelor's Degree in urban or regional planning, geography, architecture, environmental sciences, community development, economics, or closely related field; AND
One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in planning functions for a public-sector agency or private consulting firm. OR
A Master's Degree in urban or regional planning, geography, architecture, environmental sciences, community development, economics, or closely related field.
