Support automotive plastic product development through injection molding process engineering experience and knowledge. Position is a combination of hands-on machine/process debugging and technical engineering support. Must be able to start up and optimize complex injection molding machines and molds. Provide company with the technical knowledge to improve processes and productivity. Support projects and programs as they relate to quoting and implementing plans in support of management goals and objectives. Continuous examination and improvement of mold design for improved performance.
Functions & Essential Duties
Identify key bottlenecks/waste and promote system improvements that directly improve product cost and production efficiency.
Support the APQP process as a vital team member
Vital member of Kaizen events to increase productivity, reduce downtime and eliminate scrap and wasted movements
Perform investigations of quality problems and develop countermeasures
Work with Manufacturing and Quality to help develop and maintain robust manufacturing processes
Train employees as needed in molding processes for improvement results
General Engineering & Design
Implement specific process plans for production lines, provide associated detailed planning and bill of materials in support of product processing.
Conceptualize, recommend and implement new production equipment
Manage a project from conceptual stage to production
Design on Solid Works and AutoCAD as necessary
Attend mold trials as primary technical support to operate equipment, debug and optimize the injection process.
Facilitate mold flow analysis, prototype development, and process design. Develop process control documentation, including work instructions, PFMEA, and process control parameters
Standardize tools for optimum set-up time
Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets
Support department on quotes and samples as required
Prepare, submit and present reports as required
Authority to stop production, if necessary, to correct a quality problem when related to the production process.
Education or Required Experience
4 year engineering degree (preferably M.E. or I.E.)
(relative experience may be considered in lieu of education)
Minimum of seven years injection mold/engineering experience
Strong knowledge in injection molding engineered resins.
