The Civil Engineer performs various functions within the Plan Review Division of the Engineering Department including review and comment of engineering reports and plans for new development within the City, review of CIP projects, updating City engineering standards, assistance in the design of City infrastructure and coordinating with other departments within the City. The Civil Engineer may supervise the work performed by technical or paraprofessional engineering staff. Assignments provide opportunity for the application of independent judgment and initiative in the review or design of projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of a registered civil engineer who reviews work through conferences and inspections.
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Requires a minimum of three years experience in a related field, a valid Driver’s License. Must possess an Engineering-In-Training (EIT) Certification.
The ideal candidate for the Civil Engineer will be registered as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE), have five or more years of experience in Civil Engineering Design and/or Civil Engineering Plan Review of Residential and Commercial Projects, have at least one year experience in a municipal government environment and have a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field. The ideal candidate will also be a self motivator; possess excellent interpersonal/human relations skills; and demonstrate great writing, comprehension, and computer literacy skills.
