The Quality Assurance Inspector utilizes various inspection techniques, including GDT (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to compile and determine conformance to applicable specifications for internally and externally manufactured products. Ensures that necessary certifications are met in order to comply with customer requirements and may meet with government/customer Source Inspectors. Minimum of one year experience in operating and programming a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM); experience with Nikon CMM equipment and CMM Manager Software is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reads and interprets complex drawings and specifications for inspection of parts, equipment and fixtures. Verifies certification of processes and material on incoming products as required. Consults with Quality Systems Manager on acceptance standards and conveyance of quality issues.
Selects products for tests at specified stages in the production process and tests products for details such as dimensions, performance and mechanical characteristics. Utilizes GDT for dimensional requirements. Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts or products to measure performance, life or material characteristics as required.
Records test data and inspection records. If deemed necessary, meets with Source Inspectors. Evaluates data and writes reports to accept or reject parts in accordance with Company procedures and customer requirements. Identifies, reports or corrects problems with equipment, material or procedures and recommends modifications of existing procedures to achieve optimum quality within limits of Company capability.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Must be accurate in inspection of parts and perform tasks in a timely manner.
Must have intermediate-level computer skills; knowledge of CMM Manager Software is preferred.
Ensures that all QMS (Quality Management System) procedures are followed.
Must have strong organizational skills, have a thorough knowledge of quality assurance procedures, and a strong background in GDT.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Associates degree in math or science from two-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of one year experience in operating and programming a CMM and experience with Nikon CMM equipment and CMM Manager Software is preferred.
Must be able to speak, read and write English in an effective manner. Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, blueprints and engineering drawings, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Must be able to present information effectively and respond to questions from employees, vendors and customers.
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios.
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts or draw valid conclusions. Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and use hands to touch, handle, or feel, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear and occasionally is required to stoop, creep or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working around moving mechanical parts or machines. In addition, employees are exposed to, and may come in direct contact with, potentially hazardous chemicals or materials. Therefore, all employees must follow proper safety procedures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
