The Engineer II will prepare and review plans, specifications, estimates, and reports involving the construction, maintenance and operation of a variety of water and sanitary sewer projects to assure compliance with Public Utilities standards and city, state, and federal requirements.
Review construction plans prepared by engineering consultants for conformity with department and city specifications and policies and coordinate with adjacent developments, roads, and utilities serve as project manager and engineer-in-charge for water and sanitary sewer projects and will assure timely and on budget design and construction.
Perform contract administration for design and construction projects.
Conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and maintain project documentation and records.
Perform engineering or hydraulic studies.
Review of stormwater pollution prevention plan ( SWPPP) documents and construction management.
Evaluating asset condition and sanitary sewer flow data.
Coordinate with City departments, outside agencies and contractors as necessary.
Provide engineering support for operation and maintenance of public utilities facilities.
Continually apply independent decision making abilities
Strong preference for candidates having experience in project management in CIP complex sanitary sewer and water distribution projects, design, construction and evaluating the condition and performance of the departments sanitary sewer and water distribution systems and sanitary sewer pumping stations to include: reviewing data from sanitary sewer evaluation studies (SSES)CCTV analyses; and sanitary sewer overflow analysis, gravity sewer, force and water main, and pump station design; contract preparation and administration; should have basic understanding of hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling; should have a basic understanding of surveying and GIS; related data management, computer skills and software knowledge in particular Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Individual should possess strong communication skills both oral and written. MINIMUMS: Requires a Bachelors Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering or engineering technology program with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience; OR a Bachelors Degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) approved engineering technology program with possession of a Land Surveyors license and two (2) years of progressive professional experience; OR an Associates Degree in Engineering with six (6) years progressive professional experience plus possession of an E.I.T. Certification, OR a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects (APELSCIDLA). SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
