SUMMARY: AC Transit is currently recruiting for the position of Maintenance Technical Service. Under general direction, performs tracking and analysis of revenue vehicle performance; supervises maintenance projects teams, and provides assistance to bus procurement activities. REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS: ∙ Plans, schedules, and supervises the work of assigned staff engaged in maintenance projects, such as safety campaigns, retrofits and upgrades, fleet defects, lifecycle costs, and excessive parts usage. ∙ Reviews and analyzes technical and mechanical bus data and other information to assess bus part failures, and recommend solutions. Responds to accident scenes to investigate bus and part failures. ∙ Compiles data from the computerized maintenance system to analyze bus performance. ∙ Predicts performance and maintenance intervals using bus performance averages. ∙ Develops policies and procedures for proper scheduling of maintenance for buses and component parts; and audits operating divisions to ensure adherence to proper maintenance schedules. ∙ Coordinates activities and analysis with other supervisory maintenance department staff regarding ongoing development and refinement of preventative maintenance programs. ∙ Develops specifications for bus procurement, and inspects buses pursuant to bus buys to ensure adherence to established specifications. Participates in the acquisition and delivery of new buses. ∙ Reviews vendors and potential replacement parts, determines suitability and makes purchase recommendations based on analysis. ∙ Prepares written analyses, reports, correspondence, and other documentation. ∙ Performs related duties as required.
Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.
Experience: Equivalent to three (3) years as either a journey-level Mechanic or in a position equivalent to AC Transit Maintenance Supervisor, that included verifiable experience with buses and diesel parts. Knowledge Of: Maintenance-related business practices; bus components and parts; tools, equipment, and materials used in diesel maintenance and repair; diesel and gasoline combustion engines and rebuilding of component parts and units; electronics, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; preventive maintenance programs; workplace safety procedures; principles of supervision, training, and motivation; modern office procedures; personnel computers, and current computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases at the intermediate level of proficiency.
Ability To: Compile, analyze, and evaluate technical and mechanical bus data, component parts, and component and part failure in order to make cause and effect determinations and determine warranty trends; evaluate the impact and cost-effectiveness of alternative approaches, and make recommendations regarding procedural change; learn and apply the practices and methods of bus procurement and contracts; develop bus specifications; communicate effectively both orally and in writing with District staff regarding assigned activities; prepare effective oral and written reports, memoranda, warranty alerts, and other correspondence, as well as spreadsheets, databases, and other materials; handle multiple assignments and tasks under deadline; plan, organize, and supervise assigned project staff; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work using principles of good customer service.
Special Requirements: Must possess, or obtain and maintain a valid California Class C Driver License, and meet the District's driving standards.
Physical Requirements: (1) Must maintain the physical condition necessary to perform tasks in an office setting and operate computers, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment. (2) Must possess the mobility necessary to move about in a large maintenance facility and inspect buses and bus components, including entering and exiting buses, bending, turning, stretching, and performing fine motor movements while standing and reaching to access engine compartments and repair/inspection pits.
